Professional Mentoring Program Mentors

One-on-One Mentoring Sessions

For One-on-One mentoring, your mentee will contact you via the provided email once they have made their selection. Please respond to set a time for the meeting. The goal is one hour a month, either in person or virtual whichever you decide. During the first meeting, a mentorship contract will be completed together. The students will log the mentoring session.

Fall 2025 Discussion Nights are open to all students and include a variety of topics related to career readiness.  Topics from Fall 2024 included:

  • "Graduate school: From finding the program to securing support"
  • "Not that kind of doctor: Exploring other options in the medical field"

Spring 2026 Discussion Nights are open to all students and include a variety of topics related to career readiness.  Topics from Spring 2025 included:

  • "Finding career independence through entrepreneurship and consulting"
  • "The journey continues! The meandering paths of education and careers"

Mentoring Resources

Introduction to addressing diversity issues between you and your mentee - developed by Suzanne Hizer, Ed.D, HSI-STEM Director, and Robyn Araiza, MS, PMP Faculty Director, at California State University San Marcos.

The Influence of Microaffiramation on Undergraduate Persistence in Science Career Pathways - addresses how historically underrepresented and overrepresented undergraduates persist in science-related career pathways.
