About OCR

Mission

The mission of the Office of Conflict Resolution (OCR) is to help the ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø community build, support and sustain a culture of care, respect and resolution.

By addressing Other Conduct of Concern (OCC) and behavior that disrupts our learning, living and working environments, we endeavor to reduce and resolve conflicts, through services and support that foster a welcoming environment. The mission aids OCR in supporting the overall purpose of student success at ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø, while aiming to facilitate success for faculty, staff and administrators, all who contribute to a caring ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø culture. It also facilitates our alignment with CSU to create a culture of respect and professionalism in all aspects of work, living and education.

The Office of Conflict Resolution expects to accomplish its mission by supporting ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø’s strategic plan. Addressing OCC and behaviors such as bullying, intimidation, verbal aggression and microaggression is a part of our institutional responsibility to cultivate equity and accountability, while offering opportunities to access inclusive, respectful and caring environments.

Vision

The vision of the Office of Conflict Resolution is aspirational.

The vision of the Office of Conflict Resolution is aspirational. OCR endeavors to build upon a culture of care, respect and resolution at ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø by working together with the campus community to diminish, and eventually remove, barriers that impede and/or erode campuswide care and the overall success of students, staff, faculty and administrators.

The major tenets of the vision, LUCIDA, are aligned with aspects of the strategic plan. LUCIDA stands for:

  • Lead with care – We cultivate and nurture ways of engaging that consider the individual and collective experiences of the ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø campus community.
  • Untap the true power of ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø – We recognize the value that all students, administrators, faculty and staff bring to ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø and encourage those gifts and skills to be used and shared with ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø to enhance the learning, living and working experience of the campus community.
  • Challenge ourselves – We stretch and grow to reach new understanding and possibilities within ourselves and across our community.
  • Inform and inspire – We are open to original ideas, creative expression and innovative and transformative ways to resolve and manage conflict at ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø.
  • Dismantle barriers – We work to reduce factors that impinge upon the inalienable right to exist and belong, that diminish our individual and collective humanity and negatively impact how we come together.
  • Adapt – We welcome opportunities to explore, examine and deal with change in ways that encourage authentic care across the ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø community.

LUCIDA works toward creating and facilitating safer and more hospitable environments of working, learning and living at ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø. It emphasizes an intentional, relational, trauma-informed and growth-producing approach to address OCC and other harmful behaviors in support of the greater ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø community.
