There have been multiple successful business ventures who have successfully pitched and won the Quick Pitch Competition and we are thrilled to share their stories with you!
First place winner, Paul Angulo and Pawiiy Linton, are both 4th year student majoring in Entreprenuership. This pitch was for their own mobile app, tailored to Native Americans and their tribes, "Native Roots". Through this app, individuals can photograph plants and be instructed on how to safely prepare and consume the plant. The app will also feature Indigenous stories and music. The hopes for this app is to eliminate food insecurity for Native Americans across the nation.
Gerladine Ferraren is a 3rd year Management student who one 2nd place for her business pitch, "Serenity Agape Love." This is an proposal for housing for active duty military persons struggling with addiction and their families. Ferraren's goal with Serenity Agape Loveis to solve the problem of unsafe displacement for military personel's families while they battle addiction and go through rehabilitation. Ferraren hopes for this housing to be placed near active military bases locally, such as San Diego, and eventually, globally in places such as Japan and Germany.
Ariella Dodig, a 3rd year Marketing & Sales student, won 3rd place for her pitch "Lattus Apparel." Lattus Apparel is a clothing brand that transforms second hand clothing into wearable artwork designed by undiscovered artists (tattoo, painters, graffiti, you name it!). Each month Lattus will collaborate with 4 new artists around the world to create 12 clothing items, 3 per artist. The style and type of item will depend on the findings and choice from the second hand shop that month.

First place winner, Elijah Mattfeld, is a 4th year student majoring in Global Business. He volunteers at many non-profits that fight for global change. These non-profits include the Surfrider Foundation in San Diego which specializes in beach cleanups, a food pantry, Circle of Care in Temecula, and an orphanage outreach in Colinda de Luz, T.J., Mexico​.
Elijah's pitch was for his own user-friendly app, "Philantree". Philantree allows others to be their own philanthropist and get in touch with different organizations to volunteer or donate!
Jakob Hatlestad is a 3rd year Global Business Management student who one 2nd place for his business pitch, "FreeFall." FreeFall is an in-home automatic fall detection device. Hatlestad's goal with FreeFall is to solve the problem of older adults not wanting to wear fall detection devices. FreeFall can be placed anywhere around the home for automatic fall detection and is an alternative to wearing fall detection devices.
Astrid Russell, Jailen Trinidad, and Edward Valle, who are all 4th year Biotechnology students, won 3rd place for their pitch "PeriMenovo." PeriMenovo is a diagnostic test to catch and diagnose Perimenopause and Menopause. These tests solves the problem misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and no diagnosis at all. The PeriMenovo team establishes that diagnosing someone can save their life. They hope that PeriMenovo can be used in the future to save millions.
First place winner, Aalyssa Sepulveda, is a 3rd year student majoring in Marketing. She runs a small business - Con Amor Bakery - where she creates custom baked goods, such as cookies, cupcakes, scones, and more! Her aim with her business is to make baked goods that are good quality and taste just right; she makes sure her desserts a best tasting but not too sweet, moist, and aesthetically appealing.
Jacob Alvarez is a Business Administration student who one 2nd place for his business pitch, "MateStar." MateStar is an app that would reward roommates for their cleanliness, which would integrate with apartment complex payments - thus, a roommate's rent payment would be based off their score of cleanliness. Alvarez's goal with MateStar is to solve the problem of dirty roommates, which is an experience that college students or those who live in a shared space are all too familiar with. MateStar creates an incentive for roommates to maintain cleanliness in a shared space, and rewards those who puts in their work of maintaining a shared space.
Ethan Lee, a Business Management student, won 3rd place for his business pitch "Shock Straw." Shock Straw is a straw that filters water, and also further enhances water quality with the infusion of vitamins and minerals. Lee's idea solves the problem of contaminated water, and the dangers of waterborne pathogens, which according to the CDC, has caused about 7.15 million illnesses. Lee establishes that water is a basic human necessity that everyone should have safe access to, and "Shock Straw" aims to solve this issue.
