The Liberal Studies curriculum covers the seven subject areas taught in elementary schools. Additionally, the California Standards for K-8 teacher preparation mandate that future teachers acquire in-depth knowledge in one of the subject areas. These in-depth subject areas are referred to as the Area of Focus in the Liberal Studies curriculum. All Liberal Studies majors are required to select one Area of Focus to complete their academic plan of study.
