Mini Teaching Institute: Cultivating Information Literacy and Critical Thinking in the Age of AI

Overview

  • Thurs June 12 and Friday June 13, 2025 9:00-11:00 AM (includes coffee & light continental breakfast)
  • In-Person, KEL 2413
  • Training stipend $300 for up to 12 eligible faculty

Description This hands-on workshop is designed for instructors with a basic understanding of generative AI who are interested in developing classroom strategies to cultivate GenAI literacy among students. Rather than introducing entirely new challenges, GenAI often amplifies existing gaps in students鈥 information literacy and critical thinking skills, making it a useful entry point for cultivating these essential skills. Through examples, guided exercises, and peer feedback, participants will design classroom activities and assignments that help students develop information literacy and critical thinking skills by assessing the accuracy, completeness, and quality of GenAI outputs. The workshop will also address the ethical dimensions of AI use in higher education. Participants will leave with ready-to-use materials tailored to their courses, ready for implementation in the upcoming semester.
