Welcome to the STEM Ambassador Alumni Spotlight!

We are super excited to celebrate the incredible ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø alumni who have helped shape CRESE's programs over the years. Our STEM Ambassadors have played a vital role in inspiring the next generation of innovators while developing their own professional and personal skills along the way.

Check back often to see where their journeys have taken them and how they continue to make an impact in the world of STEM.

October 2025 Spotlight:   Lemuel Johnson

My name is Lemuel Johnson, and I graduated from California State University San Marcos (±¬ÁÏÉçÇø) in 2023 with a degree in Applied Physics.

I served as a STEM Ambassador from 2022 to 2023, beginning in the online making program before transitioning to traditional STEM Outreach. During my time with CRESE, I had the chance to take part in several amazing projects. I especially enjoyed helping build the giant Lite Brite for Super STEM Saturday and working behind the scenes to ensure the NASA Academy outreach ran smoothly. Some of my favorite memories include staying up late at the STEMbassy with a few other ambassadors to make sure the Lite Brite was ready in time, bringing it to Super STEM Saturday with the paint still drying, traveling to Minneapolis to speak at the American Physical Society meeting, learning and teaching 3D printing, serving as a liaison between CRESE and the Innovation Hub, and celebrating the end of the semester with a movie night at the STEMbassy.

Through my time as a STEM Ambassador, I learned valuable skills in 3D printing, project management, team leadership, and professional communication. The opportunities I had pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow into a more confident and capable person. I realized that I was capable of much more than I had previously believed.

Today, I work as a Final Test Engineer at Quantum Design, where I use the 3D printing and CAD skills I first developed at CRESE to design and print fixtures for testing equipment. The leadership and communication experience I gained as an ambassador continues to help me collaborate effectively and manage complex projects. I’m also considering pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.

I’ve learned that the more you put into something, the more you’ll get out of it. Being a STEM Ambassador is much more rewarding when you invest yourself fully — in the projects, in your work at school sites, and in the relationships you build. Be diligent in the tasks you’re given and communicate clearly; doing so builds trust and opens doors to opportunities that might not have been possible otherwise.

Outside of work, I love baking bread (brioche is my favorite!), playing keyboard at my church, and working out.
