K-16 Internship Program Experience
Last Spring, CoBA partnered with the K16 Collaborative鈥檚 Border Region Talent Pipeline
to source students for the Collaborative鈥檚 Summer 2024 Internship Program. The K16
Collaborative is a state funded program for strengthening the education to workforce
pathways in California, with internships playing a key role in student learning and
workforce connection. CoBA became an active partner in the program, encouraging students
to apply to this ground breaking opportunity. Newsha Mardmomen, a current finance
major, was one of many CoBA students who participated in the K-16 internship program
during Summer 2024.
Ms. Mardmomen was able to secure a position as a project support intern at Cubic Corporation,
an American multinational defense and public transportation equipment manufacturer
based in San Diego. This opportunity is set to accelerate her career after graduation
and has helped her build a strong network of professional references. She credits
both her coursework at 爆料社区 and the support of the Executives in Residence on campus
for helping her land the position.

real world

firms, in-person or by zoom?

- One of the interviews was on zoom and one was in person

interviews, EIR coaching)? Please explain.
-
- Yes, this class helped me a lot to learn the importance of making connections and
linkedin when it comes to networking and putting your self out there
- My coach in that class has also provided a lot of mentorship to me and I am still
in contact with them
- The mock interviews helped me learn how to prepare for my actual interviews
- What organization (name) did you work for, what was your title, and how long was the
internship? What did you do and what was a typical day like? Where you able to make
connections with other people who worked full time at the organization?

looking into future budgets and creating shipping memos
- How will the internship impact your future classes and program at CoBA and how will
it shape your career search / launch? Were you offered a job after the internship?
-
- My internship helped me a lot to gain hands on experience when it comes to the actual
business world
- This will help me get a better understanding about my classes
- Any advice for your fellow students when it comes to preparing for an internship,
searching for an internship, or if anyone is considering whether or not they should
look for an internship?
-
- Internships are very beneficial when it comes to applying for Jobs in the future
- Start applying early
- Prepare for interviews by looking through the job description and learn more about
the company
