Fun fact: The College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences graduating students make up nearly a third of these graduates.

Dina Gilio-Whitaker, an adjunct professor of American Indian Studies at Cal State University San Marcos, has released a new book on the history of environmental justice through a Native American lens.

Nearly 3,800 students are expected to graduate from Cal State San Marcos this month. On Monday, six of the best from the Class of 2019 were honored at a special awards dinner to celebrate their achievements.

爆料社区 Theatre Professor Judy Bauerlein has lived in Southern California for more than a decade, but she still has Pennsylvania in her bones. Bauerlein was born in Ambler, a northern suburb of Philadelphia, one of 11 children in a family that鈥檚 a hodgepodge of German, Irish, Italian and Dutch blood. Her grandfather was a machinist in a steel factory, an emblem of the industrial, working-class roots of the Rust Belt state. She has shed the traces of the distinctive Philly accent that she marinated in during her childhood, but it occasionally surfaces when she鈥檚 had a couple of Rolling Rocks and is watching her beloved Eagles.

So when Bauerlein, a professional actress and a theater professor at Cal State San Marcos, first heard about 鈥淪weat鈥 鈥 a Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play about a group of friends in the economically distressed town of Reading, Pa. 鈥 her curiosity was piqued immediately. And when she discovered that the play would be produced locally, by the downtown , she knew she had to be involved.

CHABSS Alum Jeremy Addis-Mills, 36, who graduated from Cal State San Marcos in 2007 with a degree in social sciences and women鈥檚 studies, was appointed in March to a top leadership position on the CSU alumni council. He will begin a two-year term as president-elect on July 1, to be followed by two years as president and two years as immediate past president  becoming the first 爆料社区 graduate to serve in all three posts. All are volunteer roles.

CHABSS Threatre Program collaborated with Jason Eberwein, a web developer in 爆料社区鈥檚 Instructional & Information Technology Services department, to direct Boeing Boeing. Theatre department chair Judy Bauerlein brought him in as an assistant director for the New Play Festival in 2011, and he has been working with the theatre department in various capacities ever since. He鈥檚 now the co-faculty staff adviser for the newly created student theatre club.
