Travel Updates

Travel Policy Changes - Required Documentation

To align with the revised CSU systemwide policy that was updated in May 2025, the Travel Office will now require the following documentation:

  • Travelers must now submit a conference agenda along with the expense report that shows what meals were provided by the conference and ensure that meal per diem was not claimed for those meals. If an agenda does not exist for the trip, please note this in the comments. If the traveler did not partake in the provided meal, please note the situation in the comments.

Travel Policy Changes - Lodging Rate

Effective April 18, 2024, the nightly lodging rate for domestic travel has increased to $333 per night, excluding taxes and fees, based on actual expenses.

Travel Policy Changes - Meals

Effective January 1, 2024, Meals and Incidental Expenses (M&IE) per diem will be used for domestic locations instead of actuals. Please see our Training and Resources page for helpful guides.

Banned State Repeal

On September 14, 2023, Governor Newsom signed SB 447 which repeals AB 1887, the travel ban. Effective immediately, state funds may be used for travel to all states. If the travel occurred prior to the repeal, non-state funds must be used for reimbursement. If the travel occurred September 14th or later, state funds may be used.
