Solidarity for Undocumented Students

Monarch Butterfly

Dear Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies students and community,

The Department of Sociology at 爆料社区 is unwavering in our solidarity with you, and in particular
our undocumented, DACAmented, and TPS students who are being persecuted and attacked in the
U.S. and around the world. We remain committed to resistance, justice, and solidarity. We are
committed to supporting and protecting you, and we want to reaffirm that we will not work with or
cooperate with ICE or law enforcement in the detainment ofstudents. We will protect your privacy
and personal information, as outlined by FERPA, and we will continue to offer our full support
during these difficult times.

As a department dedicated to social justice, it is our responsibility to denounce the harmful
ideologies that threaten to tear apart families, communities, and campuses. In recent times, we
have witnessed a troubling rise in anti-immigrant, white supremacist rhetoric, including presidential
attempts to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS), undermine birthright citizenship, expand the
鈥渂order wall,鈥 and escalate detentions and deportations. These actions are creating fear and
uncertainty in our communities, and we mustspeak out in solidarity with those affected.
We are deeply proud to serve a diverse student body, and we are especially inspired by the
perseverance and success of our undocumented, DACAmented, and TPS students. Despite facing
immense challenges鈥攊ncluding xenophobia, racism, sexism, and economic oppression鈥攜ou
continue to push forward in your academic and personal pursuits. Your resilience embodies the
spirit of 鈥渕aking a way out of no way,鈥 and we honor your strength and dedication.

If you ever find yourself facing any challenges or need assistance, please know that you are not
alone. Reach out to us, and we will do everything in our power to support you.
In addition to the department鈥檚support, we want to make sure you are aware of your rights as an
individual in the U.S., regardless of your immigration status. Below are some important points to
remember if you encounter ICE or law enforcement:

鈥 You have the right to remain silent and may refuse to speak to immigration officers.
鈥 Always carry a 鈥渒now-your-rights鈥 card and show it ifstopped by immigration officers.
鈥 Do not open your door without a warrant.
鈥 You have the right to speak with a lawyer before signing anything.
鈥 Carry any valid immigration documents with you.
鈥 If you are concerned about being arrested, inform the officer if you have children.
鈥 Create a safety plan and be prepared.
鈥 Report and document any raids or arrests.

For further support, we encourage you to contact the COMPASS Center, which offers a
wide range of services for undocumented and mixed-status students. You can reach them by email
at compass@csusm.edu, or by sending them a direct message on Instagram at
.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need any assistance. Our department is united with you,
and we will continue to fight for justice and equity with all of our students.
You are not alone.

Sincerely,
The Department of Sociology at 爆料社区
