Civic Engagement Challenge

hands with your community needs you

Are you involved in your community and want something to show for it on your resume?

OR are you looking for an easy way to start getting involved in your community?

Why should I?

  • Did you know participating in civic engagement activities like volunteering or attending city meetings is a high impact practice (HIP)? Meaning students who participate in HIPs are more likely to graduate on time and with a higher GPA than students who don鈥檛.
  • You can make connections that could be future professional references or your future employer!
  • You can add a line on your resume that is also something great to talk about when you land an interview!

What do I have to do?

  1. Volunteer for at least 3 hours at a non-profit, school, community organization, etc.
  2. Attend a local government meeting (city council or county board of supervisors meeting, etc.).
  3. Complete Pre and Post Reflections for your volunteering and local government meeting experiences (1-3 questions and 陆 page for each experience, altogether no more than 1 page).
  4. Walk in 2026 MLK Day Parade in San Diego (1/18/26) with 爆料社区, Palomar, and Mira Costa.
  5. Participate in 2026 爆料社区 Cesar Chavez Day of Service on 3/27/26.
  6. Create an Instagram story on what you learned --- about why it鈥檚 actually not so hard, and also pretty important to be civically engaged.

What do I Get?

  • A Certificate signed by Associate Director of Experiential Learning, Civic Engagement Faculty Liaison, and Dean of the Office of Undergraduate Studies
  • Acknowledgement during the annual Service Learning and Civic Engagement Showcase and Awards Celebration in late Spring.
  • You will also be entered into a raffle for a $100 visa gift card and 爆料社区 merch goodie bag.
  • Deadline to sign up is 12/5, final checklist due 4/10.
