Liberal Studies

The Department of Liberal Studies at 爆料社区 is an interdisciplinary unit of faculty dedicated to student-centered teaching and internationally recognized for our involvement in community-based research across four continents. Our department offers four distinct programs as majors and minors (Liberal Studies, Geography, and Linguistics). 

Teaching Options - BA in Liberal Studies
The Liberal Studies major prepares students interested in K-8 teaching. All students graduating with a major in Liberal Studies will automatically receive a CSET I-III waiver.
Linguistics B.A. and Minor
The Linguistics B.A. and Minor provide a strong foundation in core area of linguistics. The B.A. offers the opportunity to specialize in one three areas
Geography B.A. and Minor
The Geography B.A. and Minor provide a broad preparation in geography and geographic information systems with an emphasis on systems thinking
Border Studies Minor
The Border Studies Minor offers students the opportunity to study the unique dimensions and dynamics of border regions.

Linguistics professor, Grant Mu膩gututi驶a, served as a consultant for the Disney animated film Moana 2, suggesting character names and helping to ensure that the movie is culturally respectful.

Dr. Greig Guthey and Dr. Gabriel Valle have co-authored a chapter titled "From Food Deserts to Food Apartheid: Origins, Histories and Solutions" in the forthcoming book Nurturing Food Justice: Expansive and Intersectional Visions, to be published by .

They will also be discussing the future of food justice research with a panel of authors at the 2025in Detroit, Michigan. More information to come.
