  • About Alexandria and her accomplishments.

Alli鈥檚 academic excellence, research acumen, and visionary servant-leadership more than qualify her for this prestigious honor. In October, she received the President鈥檚 鈥淪tudent Champion Award for Inclusive Excellence and Diversity.鈥 Her leadership for the only student organization on campus focusing on neurodiversity and disability justice has provided a voice and place for community building, belonging, learning, and advocacy for students with disabilities and allies.鈥疭he helps mentor and supervise fellow undergraduates, coordinates a mixed-methods study, and manages submission and revisions, also spending a summer as a research assistant at UCSD. And all of that with a near-perfect 3.97 GPA was more than enough to earn her the honor of being the 2025 CHABSS Dean鈥檚 Outstanding Student.

Alli also earned the Award in 2025.

At 爆料社区, Alli took full advantage of the opportunities for undergraduate research afforded by the department of psychology. She started as a member of the Autism, Family, and Community Lab with Dr. Janice Phung and developed key research skills of observation and data collection as well as people-centered skills involved in facilitating the data collection experience for participants. In the SPARCC lab under the supervision of Dr. Allison Jobin, Alli truly thrived. She continued to develop her skills starting as research assistant, becoming a project coordinator and senior undergraduate research assistant. In these roles she helped mentor and supervise fellow undergraduates, coordinated a mixed-methods study, and managed IRB submission and revisions. (In between working at these two psychology research labs, she spent a summer as a research assistant at UCSD in Dr. David Barner鈥檚 Language and Development Lab.)

During the 2024-2025 academic year, she presented the results of her research as first author on two posters: Quality of Life of Autistic Adolescents: Age of Diagnosis at the Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research at CSU San Bernadino and Autism-Related Services as a Predictor of Quality of Life in Autistic Adolescents at the International Society for Autism Research Annual Meeting in Seattle. In addition, she also co-authored a manuscript for peer review and developed a mentored independent research study, both of which are truly astounding accomplishments for an undergraduate.

Alli鈥檚 ultimate goal is to earn a Ph.D. and conduct research and clinical work and continue in her capacity as a servant-leader committed to disability inclusion, equity, and justice.

Here a few of the activities where Alli dedicated her time, all the while maintaining her GPA and active research agenda.

    • Co-President of the Disability and Neurodiversity Alliance at 爆料社区
    • Peer mentor Aspiring Scholars Program
    • Partnerships with Best Buddies International and San Marcos Unified School District Adult Transition Program
    • One of 10 students chosen for national student advisory council for the Neurodiversity Alliance
    • Trainee at San Diego Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities program

Alli is a passionate spokesperson as part of her advocacy. Here a few of the places where Alli has made her voice heard. Given that neurodiversity is often made invisible, her public presentations make space for others to be heard and seen, and to see themselves.

    • Forty presentations to different undergraduate classes
    • Neurodiversity display in 爆料社区 library to celebrate autism acceptance month
    • Presentation to CHABSS Advisory Council
    • Live News Interview on KUSI-TV to raise awareness
    • 鈥淯nlock your neurodiverse talent: A fireside chat with Dr. Temple Grandin.鈥 The Neurodiversity Alliance, 2024.

鈥淎lli is a bright and curious learner and thinker, engaged and selfless citizen, and an overall outstanding student and scholar,鈥 Jobin said. 鈥淪he cares deeply about her academic, scholarly, and service pursuits. It matters to her that they make a difference 鈥 which they certainly have. While she demonstrates stellar self-discipline and drive, she is still humble, compassionate, and kind.鈥

  • About Fredy and his accomplishments.

Fredy embodied the spirit of service, the power of support, and the faith in our youth they deserve while at 爆料社区. He showed a deep commitment to the broader community through the time and effort he dedicated at various community events, building bridges between students and organizations that are dedicated to uplifting and empowering vulnerable populations. His proactive involvement in these efforts spoke volumes about his dedication to holistic community engagement service and collaboration.

Freddy demonstrated unwavering dedication and memorable impact as an intern and mentor in the Each One Teach One program, which supports justice system-impacted youth and encourages them to consider higher education as a future pathway through our sociology department.

Freddy began his journey with the program in Fall 2024 as part of the Soc 494 Internship in Criminology and Justice Studies course. What struck faculty about Freddy鈥檚 work with the youth was his ability to listen to the participants, many of whom are not accustomed to having their voices heard. Freddy provided space for them to be seen, valued and respected, and he quickly developed in his ability to use his own voice along the way. His personal growth and vulnerability were powerful examples of resilience that inspires our young scholars. Freddy was not just a mentor; he was a serene yet powerful catalyst for change, empowering youth to believe in their potential and envision college as a tangible and attainable goal.

As a mentor, Freddy鈥檚 impact extended far beyond the classroom. He opened up in ways that allowed the youth he mentored to feel seen and heard. He also served roles as environmental steward volunteer at Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation in Carlsbad, and as a food bank volunteer at North County Food Bank in Carlsbad.
