Design Project-Based Learning for All

The Art of the Book

Our art kits are open for Students k-12, Teachers, Student Teachers,  parents and art lovers in general!  The Art Kits will include STEAM Literacy Lessons from our partnership  with the New Children's Museum  as well as posters stickers and more!  Registration is now open  (on a first come first  serve basisi) while supplies last.

Arts Amplifying Youth Summit

is a movement created for youth by youth to amplify our voices and experiences around issues that directly impact us. Our 3rd annual summit will bring together students from all over San Diego to connect through the arts and create changes they want to see in the community.

 

This is an in-person event for youth ages 12 to 24. The event will take place outdoor, at , and be in observance of all Covid-safe guidelines from the CDC and San Diego county. We can accommodate a maximum of 35 participants so please register ASAP. There will also be a virtual option on Oct. 18th, 2020 for those who opt to not attend the in-person event.

San Marcos Writing Project

The San Marcos Writing Project (SMWP) is one of 190 sites of the National Writing Project (17 in California), which is a professional development network of teachers whose goal is to improve student-writing achievement by improving the teaching and learning of writing in the nation's schools.

The writing project is a resource for teachers and school districts. During the school year, writing project teachers can also provide professional development workshops for other teachers in their schools and communities. We host Open Institutes around relevant topics for two weeks in the summer or two to three day workshops during the school year. We also host Young Writer's Camps for two weeks in the summer at school sites around North San Diego County for students in grades two through eight.

Arts Empower San Diego Mega Conference on Oct. 17 at Balboa Park.

The Arts Empower Mega Conference is a one-of-a-kind forum that unites teachers of all arts disciplines, elementary multiple-subject teachers, teaching artists, school administrators, and arts organization members. It鈥檚 developed in partnership with the county鈥檚 arts education organizations and Balboa Park arts and culture institutions.  

The Arts Amplifying Youth will lead a work shop in which they will provide participants with hands on experiences and activities that describe and relate to their work. Participants will leave with the perspective unique to the youth we teach by hearing directly from them.

Arts & Literacy Maker Space 3-day Bootcamp 2019

This 3-day hands-on bootcamp will provide participants with tools for integrating arts throughout the curriculum with unique and engaging techniques such as literacy maker spaces, sketch-noting, visual literacy strategies, and theater tableau for reading comprehension.
Participants will leave with several lessons, new
skills, and methods for assessing student learning.

This year's event, entitled "This is Personal...", will amplify our voices around the topic of safety, exploring through the arts how we realize, reclaim and reimagine it for ourselves.

Although the RSVP window is now closed, this free and fun event showcases opportunities and resources available to classrooms throughout the county and offers teachers an opportunity to gather new, innovative teaching resources. Educators and their families will be able to explore the Museum鈥檚 , learn about educational opportunities at The New Children鈥檚 Museum, and visit community partner booths with information on school field trips, teacher training, and in-classroom education.

Literacy Residency: Event at The New Children's Museum

Come meet and hear about the work of Lee Cataluna and Cheyne Gallarde, author and illustrator of the children's book, Ordinary 'Ohana. The book shares images of a contemporary Hawaii, both familiar and unique. Martha Barnette, of the radio show A Way With Words, will be interviewing Lee and Cheyne, highlighting how they brought the work together and to share how their work applies to educational settings.
