MANAGEMENT
The Integrated Science and Engineering Building at CSU San Marcos will serve as a "beacon on the hill", a significant visual and symbolic landmark for the campus that will transform the educational experience through hands-on learning and immersive student engagement.
Designed to foster a sense of community among students and faculty, the building's entry is located near the Collaboratory, a glassy student project space encouraging collaboration and showcasing hands-on learning. An adjacent shared computer lab will provide essential resources for academic success and dedicated capstone spaces will be used for students and faculty to work together on semester projects.
Open areas on each floor will offer opportunities for informal social interactions and provide places to study, enhancing student engagement. Outdoor terraces surrounding active learning classrooms will facilitate practical application and experimentation for projects involving drones and robots.
A perforated metal screen on the building's exterior will feature the University's land acknowledgment statement encoded in binary language, the universal two-digit system used by every computer system. This prominent yet subtle feature on the building exterior celebrates the campus’ native student population, spoken in the language of CSTEM (the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics).
Pursuing LEED Gold certification, the building will demonstrate CSU San Marcos’ commitment to sustainability through low-energy glazing, efficient irrigation, and solar energy solutions, contributing to reduced operational costs.
Designed by HGA, the Integrated Science and Engineering Building will position the University to provide future engineers and computer scientists with the skills essential for thriving careers in the region, positively impacting students, faculty, and the campus community.
