Thomas Kenaya, CPA is a principal at Baker Tilly’s assurance practice with over 20
years of experience in both public and private sectors, serving companies in technology
and life sciences. He offers a comprehensive perspective on conducting audits, providing
invaluable insights from both sides of the table. Thomas has been instrumental in
guiding companies through capital raising transactions, initial public offerings and
the implementation of compliance frameworks. He advises companies on complex accounting
topics and risk management, ensuring their growth and sustainability. Within Baker
Tilly, Thomas has led projects to implement innovative solutions to streamline audit
processes, enhance efficiency and improve quality. Thomas is also dedicated to his
profession and community through his active membership in national and local accounting
societies in San Diego.
Not just a ‘numbers person’, Thomas is particularly skilled at listening and disseminating information to achieve working solutions that really work for everyone. He is comfortable working with people at all levels to achieve outstanding, efficient results. He is frequently consulted on process improvements and quality control within Baker Tilly and for his clients. Thomas also receives high marks from students in all of the coursework he teaches (both technical and ‘soft’ subjects) and is a regular contributor to improving the San Diego community. Two of Thomas’ most recent community activities include serving as a committee member of the boards of local not for profits, and guest speaking at various universities across San Diego County. He serves as an ad-hoc Director on the ±¬ÁÏÉçÇø Foundation's Audit Committee.
Thomas is one of those rare people who innately recognizes that leadership is about bringing out the best in others. He continues upon his responsibility of managing and mentoring San Diego office staff, and also invests his own time into thinking about the future of the firm and of the profession. He believes that there is nothing more rewarding than helping clients do great things; it’s a process that Thomas feels honored to participate in. Thomas is a graduate of National University and is planning to commence advance coursework in the near future. He has a passion for higher education and for teaching and would love to ultimately explore the opportunity to teach.
