PASSWORDMANAGEMENT
This course explores the representation of American Indians in film from the early 20th century to the present. Students examine both mainstream and Indigenous-produced films to understand how Native peoples have been portrayed by Hollywood and how Native filmmakers have challenged stereotypes through their own storytelling. Topics include issues of identity, sovereignty, cultural appropriation, and visual sovereignty. The course emphasizes critical analysis and engages with historical, cultural, and political contexts that shape Native representation in media.
